Hardware Installation FAQ

Please note before installing Vector Hardware:

  1. Please install Vector Hardware as described in the installation manual. You will find the driver either on your installation CD-ROM or here on the website.
  2. Please check if the installation was successful. (see next chapter).
  3. After successful installation install your software (CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, etc.).

Checking the hardware installation:
Make sure that the hardware installation was successful. Please select Start - Settings - Control Panel and double click on the "Vector Hardware" icon.

After successful installation Vector Hardware is shown with two real channels and two additional virtual channels.

To get more hardware information click on the name of the hardware. On right hand side you'll see further hardware information like driver and firmware version.

A list of licenses you'll find under License - Device View.

If the installation was not successful, a red mark (one-way-sign) appears in front of the CAN hardware entry or only the virtual channels are visible (WIN 98/ME/NT). In Windows 2000/XP only virtual channels are shown. This problem can have the following causes:

  • Vector hardware is defective. Please check the card on another PC.
  • There are no free resources available, that means the interrupt (IRQ) or I/O-area or memory which are assigned to the Vector hardware are used by another device. For further treatment please find the information in the respective installation manual under chapter "Troubleshooting".
  • The wrong driver is installed or the driver installation could not be carried out correctly. Please uninstall the driver completely (see uninstall guides). After uninstalling, download the latest driver from our homepage and install it on your PC.
