Flash Bootloader Data Decompression

Is your download time too long and the communication channel is the bottleneck?

To speed-up download time between the Flash Tool and the ECU without increasing the baud rate there is only one way: The amount of data must be reduced i.e. on the Flash Tool side the data is compressed. The ECU receives the data and the decompression component decompresses the data again. With this method less bandwidth has to be used.

We have researched an optimal compression method that can easily be used for flash download. Compression rates up to 40-60%1 can be achieved that may cut-down the download time by up to 50%. The decompression method was chosen for a fast and lean implementation within the ECU. The compression algorithm can be run offline by an external tool that is delivered with the bootloader.

1 The actual compression rate depends on your data and its entrophy. Use our complementary compression tool to analyse the compression rate.
