With CMMI (Capability Maturity Model integration) the efficiency of development processes can be evaluated objectively. Thus the customer is assured that the purchased engineering services and software components have a high quality level.
The CMMI Maturity Level 2 represents the "Managed" level. This means that the management processes for planning, control, and monitoring of specific projects are being applied systematically.
The following paragraphs explain the seven process levels briefly:
- Requirements Management ensures that the requirements of the products and product components are being steered in projects, and that deviances from the requirements are being identified according to the project planning.
- Project Planning means that a specific plan with defined project activities is being produced, communicated, and maintained.
- Project Monitoring and Control guarantees that insight to the project progress and the realization of the planned activities prevails in the projects, so that appropriate corrective measures can be defined if the execution of the project activities deviate substantially from the plan.
- Supplier Agreement Management ensures that the procurement of products from suppliers (who have a contractual relationship with the customer) is directed and supervised.
- Measurement and Analysis means that metrics are being defined and maintained that meet the information requirements of the project leader and the management.
- Process and Product Quality Assurance ensures that insight to the quality of the process realization and the related work products is granted to employees, as well as to the management and the project leaders from an independent point of view.
- Configuration Management ensures that software release levels and all related documents, tools, and files are consistent, and that all relevant work products are being maintained inside a configuration management environment which guarantees the integrity of the software project levels.

SCAMPI Class A-Appraisal
A "SCAMPI Class A-Appraisal" serves to measure resp. accomplish the fulfilment of the CMMI model requirements. This ensures the exactness, correctness, and traceability of the results. A "Class A-Appraisal" designates a complete evaluation in accordance with Appraisal Requirements for CMMI (ARC).
