The availability of the CAN bus is controlled by network management. Two different algorithms are defined in the OSEK-NM standard according to version 2.51. The most frequent version is the direct one, with the following features in use:
- Identification of network configuration during the start-up procedure.
- Monitoring of network configuration while the bus system is running.
- Synchronized transfer of all network nodes to the bus sleep mode (energy-saving mode if the CAN network is not required).
- Activation of the hardware (CAN controller and bus transceiver).
- Providing relevant status information for the network.
- Error correction after a bus-off
Vector provides direct OSEK network management for a large number of automobile manufacturers. Other network management types are available upon request, for example indirect network management or automobile-manufacturer-specific solutions.
