CANalyzer FAQ


Important note: please read Please note that it is absolutely essential to install the hardware before installing the software. If hardware has already been installed you should execute a driver update. Please refer to the hardware installation guide for further instructions.



What are the minimum requirements for my PC or Laptop to run CANalyzer?

  • IBM-compatible PC

  • The following configuration values are recommended (as operating system WIN 2000 SP4 and WIN XP SP2 are supported - see details below):

      Minimum Recommended
    Memory 512 MB 1 GB
    CPU 1 GHz 2.6 GHz

  • The required computer performance also depends on the volume of CAN data to be processed. Please refer to comments in CANalyzer's online Help under the topic "Throughput measurements".

  • The following are required to support the examples for the COM port: (D)COM Version 1.2 or newer

What are the minimum requirements for the operating system I am using?

  • You can use CANalyzer under Windows NT, 2000 or XP.

    Windows Vista is only supported by CANalyzer version 7.0.

    Windows NT4.0 is only supported by CANalyzer < version 6.0.

    Windows 95 is only supported by CANalyzer < version 4.1.

    Windows 98 and ME are only supported by CANalyzer < version 5.2.

    The usage of Windows 98 and ME is not recommended because of large deviations with cyclic sending of messages.

  • You need administrator rights to install the software on Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

  • For optimal performance we recommend to use Windows 2000 or XP. Concerning Windows 2000, the installation of Service Pack 4 is recommended, concerning Windows XP, Service Pack 2 is recommended.
