CANoe can be run in different modes to fill a specific role. In Online mode, CANoe is an active participant in a CAN bus and records live data streaming from the bus. In the Offline modes, CANoe is a simulator, replaying data back from previous log files for analytical purposes.
The CAN card serves as the data source in Online mode. The time basis is real time response, the clocks in the main program and on the CAN board are synchronized at the start. All time values are referenced to the start of measurement. Recording in Online mode cannot be resumed after a break, but rather must be restarted.
In Offline mode a data flow plan is displayed in the measurement setup window. A log file (e.g. *. blf, *.asc, *.log) serves as data source. This data source is symbolized by a file icon at the far left of the measurement configuration. Evaluation of the data file is started by Start (). The measurement in Offline mode is interrupted by pressing the right Stop () button on the toolbar or by pressing the <ESC> key. The Start and Stop buttons remain active in this state on the toolbar.
The evaluation can be resumed at any time after an interruption by:
- Start
- Step
- Animate
An interrupted measurement can be ended by:
- the menu item Break
- by pressing the <ESC> key
- by pressing the Stop button on the toolbar again
To reset an interrupted measurement back to the beginning, select
- Reset in the menu or
- press <Shift>+<F9>.
The time system in Offline mode is based on the times recorded in the file which belong to the data.
Offline Copy has the same features and functions as Offline mode, with one added feature: All settings from the online measurement windows are copied over to the Offline configuration. This means any special views or settings used to aid analysis while the bus is Online, can be used for Offline data analysis as well.
