All Vector tools require channel assignment to specify which CAN-hardware interface is to be used. When installing tools and hardware from Vector, this assignment should be done automatically. However, if a change needs to be made, use either of these methods:
Method 1: Assign Software Channel to specific Hardware Channel
- Open Vector Hardware Config from the Control Panel.
- If properly installed, the CAN-Hardware will appear with its serial number in parentheses.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to the CAN-Hardware to display the Hardware Channels available. If a CANcab or CANpiggy is installed, it will display the type. Otherwise it will display the channel name (Ex. Channel 2).
- Right-click on the desired Hardware Channel, move the cursor over the application, and select the Software Channel to assign.
- When finished, the Software Channel will be displayed under the Hardware Channel.

Method 2: Assign Hardware Channel to a specific Software Channel
- Open Vector Hardware Config from the Control Panel.
- If properly installed, the CAN-Hardware will appear with its serial number in parentheses.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to the Application heading to display the currently installed Software Applications.
NOTE: If a Software Application is not present, contact the Vector Support team. - Left-click on the desired application. The right window pane will change to display the Software Channels available.
- Right-click on the desired Software Channel, move the cursor over the CAN-Hardware, and select the Hardware Channel to assign.
- When finished, the Hardware Channel will be displayed to the right of the Software Channel.
